Sacred Heart Catholic School
This primary school had its 50 year reunion this year and prior to the renovations it was feeling every one of those 50 years. The existing brick walls were cracking, the flat roofs were leaking and overall it was very tired and disjointed. The brief was to create fun and vibrant learning spaces for the students and create a shared multipurpose area the whole school could use. But the number one requirement was protection for the students & staff from the elements.
For fifty years this school has had no outdoor area for the students to use in wet weather and intense summer heat. Our major requirement was to provide a multipurpose hall, new canteen and renovate the existing classrooms.
600m2 of enclosed hall space has been created by spanning over the existing quadrangle, connecting the existing classrooms. Extensive glazing visually links the hall to classrooms and to the school grounds. High-level glazing over the classroom roofs provide light and volume to the interior.
Classrooms received entire makeovers enjoying new joinery, floor coverings and vibrant pinboard wall treatments.
The new canteen boasts a stainless steel commercial kitchen, cool room and undercover weather protection for the children.
The exterior façade of the school has had a striking facelift with Alucobond panel cladding and new signage. New roofs over the classrooms are anchored to the existing brick walls with contrasting Customorb panels.
The transformation has injected new energy into the school and is being enjoyed by all.
